About TRIPTYCH VISION™

TRIPTYCH VISION™ is geometric relationship between capture and screen system that creates a three-dimensional viewing experience utilizing only flat 2D planes. Three capture positions establish related views of an environment; three fixed screens present those views around the audience. As the cameras move, the images shift against that stable arrangement, giving movement, depth, and parallax a presence that a single screen cannot reproduce.

The three screens are deliberately distinct. Each image offers a separate reference or portal into the same scene. The audience perceives relationships across the frames: where a subject appears, how a background shifts between viewpoints, what enters the periphery, and what remains outside any one image. Since the audience sits at the triangulation point of three converging images, they experience an optical illusion called the “fulcrum effect” which varies depending on camera movement, position, lens compression, focal length, etc.

This gives the filmmaker a different way to work with space and time, a new syntax of framing, blocking, movement, montage, and the negative space between images.

Like the move from a single audio channel to stereo and spatial sound, or like the variations of a musical chord to a single note, TRIPTYCH VISION™ opens up relationships between channels as a creative medium. The cumulative effect comes from geometry, rather than size or display ratio (ie IMAX), meaning the format can be explored at different scales- home installations and large cinemas, to tri-fold phones/tablets and VR.

As culture adopts a multi screen approach to screens, TRIPTYCH VISION™ offers an elegant and simplified approach to establish a new language of storytelling.

TRIPTYCH VISION™ is being developed as a repeatable system for production and exhibition, with applications across original films, live events, and dedicated viewing spaces, with a longer term trickle down effect intended for phone cameras/tablets etc. so that anyone can create and view TRIPTYCH VISION™.

What’S next?

The foundation for TRIPTYCH VISION™ is in place: a working camera and exhibition system, original films made for the format, and patent and trademark filings. The next step is to move from development to a public launch.

Funding will support a flagship TRIPTYCH VISION™ theater where audiences, filmmakers, and potential partners can experience the format as intended. A mobile roadshow will bring the films to additional venues, test the system in different settings, and build an audience beyond one location. A coordinated advertising and press campaign will make those screenings a visible introduction to the format.

From there, the goal is to expand who can make work in TRIPTYCH VISION™. That means inviting filmmakers to create original projects, establishing a clear production and exhibition process, and developing software that makes three-channel creation and playback more accessible.

The first phase proves the experience in public. Each screening builds the audience, the body of work, and the infrastructure for TRIPTYCH VISION™ to grow into a widely used cinematic medium, from pocketable devices to stadium sized screens.
